Red Devils legend Paul Scholes has urged Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho NOT to cash in on Tottenham target Anthony Martial this summer transfer window.
With silly season now in full swing, there has been speculation Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is lining up a shock move for the Frenchman, as he seeks to bolster his front line with some completely different to Harry Kane.
Martial has been heavily tipped to leave the club this summer, as Mourinho has become frustrated at his inability to perform at a high level on a regular basis, with many of his performances average at best.
But Scholes has urged United to be patient with Martial and award him a regular starting berth next season.
He was quoted on the Metro website: ‘I’d like to think he’d stay, he’s a young player and he’s still got time to develop.
‘Whether his manager quite fancies him I’m not too sure about that at the minute, he’s not shown too much confidence in him. ‘I think he’s a really good talent, as I say young, there’s still time, I think he needs a bit of love he needs an arm around him.
‘He needs a consistent run of games, he’s coming in and every time he comes on he impresses me – he’s a player I’d like to have in my team.
‘I just hope he’s not one of those players that leaves and then we see the best of them. There is a danger.’
Martial has just seen his World Cup dream get destroyed by the lack of game time under Mourinho and could force a move away from the club, especially since the Red Devils are lining up a swoop for Chelsea ace Willian and Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale.
